"Honey" $1400 OBO (Horse is located in Limestone, TN 37681) Would cost around $500 to ship it to Texas....still making this only a $1900 horse....a great deal!
14 year old grade QH
15.2 hands
Had professional reining training as a 3 and 4 year old - Worked cattle and good on trails. This mare is NOT for a novice rider, she needs an experienced rider. She is cold backed, but if you have her on a consistent riding schedule she doesn't get hot. Great mare for working cattle can turn on a dime and really sets herself up nicely. Not sure of her breed, however she may be Leo bred. She has cow sense and is an easy keeper. Would make a great team roping horse due to her size. Sound, UTD on shots, has had 3 babies, she is a great mother. Owner is selling because she is doing endurance riding and doesn't have enough time to keep her in shape. It has been about 2 years since she has ridden her consistently.
Temperament: 7 (1=calm, 10=spirited) WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THIS MARE: Loads, clips, bathes, stands tied well, stands well for farrier/trimmer, is currently kept and ridden barefoot, sometimes with front boots in rockier terrain. Size 2 boots, big hooves. MY explanation based on MY observations of this mare in regards to her "cold back": This is one of those horses that is a little antsy when she first gets going on the trail. She'll walk out fine to warm up, will jog out fine after warm up, but when you first start to pick up the pace, or other horses with her pick up the pace, she tends to round up and crow hop and might pull the bit and push forward. So, she needs someone that will be prepared for this. i.e the experienced rider. HOWEVER, when she is ridden consistently, say 1-2x times/week, she gets out of this mode-I've seen personal evidence of this. Owner just doesn't have time to ride her that often as she is conditioning two endurance horses now. I wouldn't call her a 7, except for when she first starts out. After she's done with the nonsense after a couple miles, she rides like any good ol quarter horse. VERY light in the mouth due to reining training, good brakes. Neck reins, direct, western or english, long trots and lopes, breaks nicely at the poll. BIG mare with a massive hiney. Lots of power back there, but is out of shape now, as you will see in the pics. Very FAST. Again, would make a great rope horse. No lameness issues other that she is sensitive to lush spring grass, like most horses would be. (Keep in mind this in lush Tennessee spring grass, which knocks the sock off anything we see in TX in the spring!) Very very pretty head. Nice big jowel with a pretty, feminine tapered face from the front. She is the alpha mare. One owner for last 10 years. ( I think she got her as a 4-5yr old). This mare has been riden extensively in the Tennessee mountains, has tons of trail experience, doesn't seem to booger at much from my reccollection, and has a nice smooth trot. Confident, crosses water, logs, mud. I don't recall any ground manners issues. Doesn't bite or kick. Great QH conformation, more evident when she's in shape of course.

Below is a picture of two of Honey's offspring, gorgeous!
